Detoxifying Lemon Tea

Words By Gee Marling

If after, weeks of almost uninterrupted sun, it’s starting to feel like your body itself is a human cocktail - 1-part water, 2-parts Aperol, 3-parts Prosecco – you might want to consider taking some small steps towards detoxifying your system as autumn approaches.

We think this cleansing lemon tea is the easiest way to help you gently introduce some much needed goodness back into your body. It’s a combination of fresh lemon, mint, and a hint of maple syrup - which is a great way to jumpstart your metabolism in the morning. Mint promotes digestion and soothes inflammation while lemon works to balance PH, flush out toxins, and purify the blood.

Take a soothing sip first thing in the morning, or later in the day to kick start a sluggish postprandial digestive system.

Ingredients

500 ml water
1 lemon, squeezed
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
2 sprigs of fresh mint
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Optional Add-In's
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
a slice of fresh ginger

Method

This is an easy one. Bring the water to the boil using an electric kettle or regular on the stove top. While the water heats, juice your lemon into a large (or two smaller) coffee cups. Pour in the maple syrup and cayenne, and drop in the mint sprigs, plus any additional add-in's you're including. Pour in the water when its ready, and give the contents of the cup a good stir. Drink up!
