The Leoty team's most inspirational women
By Abigail Pyke
We often find ourselves at Leoty HQ talking about women who inspire us – whether it be the women we work with, fitness instructors who we host classes with, or business women we admire. In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we got together to discuss the women who inspire us the most in all sorts of fields and walks of life.
STEPHANIE PHAIR: chosen by Marion, Founder
Stephanie Phair, chair of the British Fashion Council and Chief Strategy Officer of Farfetch, is an inspiring woman for me. She is very smart, poised, and confident, while at the same time being very responsive —she helped me a lot when I started Ernest Leoty, even though I didn’t know her before and just reached out. She took the time to understand my project and see what she could do to help. Stephanie also has a beautiful family, and is not only career oriented —she’s truly a genuine, inspiring person.
CHIARA FERRAGNI, chosen by Adelaide, Marketing & Communications
Chiara Ferragni is one of my most inspirational women as she was able to transform her love for fashion into a full-blown, incredibly successful business. From a blog and Instagram alone, she was able to be entrepreneurial and create a huge empire and community of women, who in turn inspire one another. I’ve been following her since I was in college, and she’s always been so hardworking, yet always on the go, which is a balance that’s often hard to find. Chiara is so career focused, while always making her family a constant priority, which is something I admire, and I know a lot of women look up to.
MICHELLE OBAMA, chosen by Tereza, E-Commerce
Michelle Obama is a woman who needs almost no introduction for why she’s inspiring to so many people around the world. She’s a powerful yet incredibly relatable woman, in that when she speaks, she makes you not only want to be her friend, but she makes you believe that you too can make changes in the world.
MATHILDE LACOMBE & CAROLYN MURPHY, chosen by Lucia, Marketing
For me, I find Mathilde Lacombe endlessly inspiring. She embodies women’s entrepreneurship, as a mum to 3 kids, co-founder of Birchbox and Aime Skincare, and author of “Une question d’équilibre.” She’s an all-around go-getter and amazing woman. Her mantra is one I think of all the time: “on devient ce que l’on croit,” or, you become what you believe.
Another woman I find very inspirational in an activist sense, is Carolyn Murphy. She’s been an advocate for the oceans for years, and working for under-the-radar organisations such as Waves for Water. She has also been outspoken for a long time about the over-usage of plastic in society – it’s admirable that she truly lives a life in tune with nature and the environment.
SIMONE VEIL, chosen by Louis, Operations
Mine would be Simone Veil: Do I really need to explain? I would say mostly because she achieved so much in a mainly male-dominated world: personal history, IVG legalization, Minister, President of European Parliament... Her list of accomplishments are expansive. I think her name can be given not only for an inspirational woman but for an inspirational person all around.
MARIE CURIE, chosen by Agnes, Operations
For me it would be Marie Curie, because she was truly brilliant, and changed the world of science. Moreover, she stood out at a time when women were considered inferior to men — and still made such an impact. I think she was a key person who helped change that mindset, and show what women are made of.
The Every Woman, chosen by Abigail, Marketing
I don’t have one particular woman in mind when I think of a woman who inspires me most —I think of all the women I know that I look up to, whether it be mentors in my professional life, my family members, and my close friends. I think it’s important to recognise the power of women who are living their day-to-day lives on their own terms, making their own rules, and how inspiring the little (and big) everyday things they do are —raising a family (or not!), making career moves, taking time for their own self-care, and nurturing relationships with the people they love.
JULIET, chosen by Emma, Production
One woman that inspires me is my wonderful friend Juliet. She is an inspiration for so many reasons –she is an incredible friend, writer, comedian and a skilled civil engineer by trade.Last year she ran the London marathon while having cystic fibrosis and all of that with a smile on her face the whole 5.5 hours! Her hunger for life is like no other and that’s probably what I admire the most.
So ends our round up of just a few of the women who inspire the Leoty Team every day. From women top in their field, influencers, activists and politicians, as well as every day people, we hope that this list inspires you to celebrate the women who inspire you most not only on March 8th, but every day.
