The Story Of The Romy Corset
The Inspiration
The Romy was inspired by the beautiful ‘stay’s’ (as corsets were known) produced by Maison Leoty in late 19th century Paris. The son of a famous Parisian corset maker, Ernest Leoty made his mark by inventing the first modern corset of his era. Conscious of a woman’s well-being, Leoty’s corset was light and supple giving total freedom of movement to the wearer. His invention was so revolutionary that it made its way to the Metropolitan Museum’s permanent textile collection in New York.
The Modern Corset
After undertaking some research about Leoty in the archives of the Louvre, we started wondering how he would fuse fashion with technology today. Our guess? He’d use smart fabrics and cutting edge techniques for a revolutionary collection, without losing the French elegance so intrinsic to his creations. We love seeing how women wear our pieces in real life and we get so much satisfaction when we see it being worn as casual attire as well as for exercise.
The Technical Details
Our designs are informed and inspired by the DNA of traditional corsetry.
